Christmas is approaching quickly. There is so much that sparkles and catches our eye. But is it worthy of our attention? What do we see, what do we notice during the Christmas preparation? Our towns are full of twinkly stuff. But amidst all of the shining things, you have to search to find HIM. The one Christmas is all about. Seeing and recognising Jesus is a lot like photography.
For a photographer, beauty is found in the details. Their eyes are trained to notice what others might overlook. I have a few favourite fotos that I have taken over the years. One of my favourites from this year was taken during my visit to Burundi. Taken through the window of our hospital there. This image speaks volumes to me. It reminds me a little of Christmas. Wasn’t Jesus also “on the outside”? Not seen by many, and yet he was the most important thing going on at that time in that city.
So what is our focus right now as we approach Christmas? Where can we catch a glimpse of Jesus during these days?
Let’s try and recognise him in the joyful experiences, through encounters with others, and through the successes we achieve.
But also in pain, in our human limitations, in sickness, and loss.
In every experience, Christ extends His hand to comfort, strengthen, and encourage us.
As we journey through Advent, let us adjust our inner camera to focus on Him more clearly in our everyday reality.
Advent blessings and Christmas joy.
